On Saturday, November 19th 2011, forces from Ministry of Interior broke into Tahrir Square assaulting peaceful sit-inners and demonstrators, MOI forces used heavy stream of tear gas bomb, cartouch and rubber bullets, against protesters, resulting in death of several protesters and injury of several hundreds.
After demonstrators managed to take over the Sq a second time, joined forces of MOI and Army attempted another try to disperse the protesters using brutal force which included the use of cartouch and rubber bullets and heavy use of tear gas bombs, protesters were forced into nearby streets. Tents of protesters were smashed, belongings sit on fire, the field hospital set to treat those injured was even targeted with tear gas bombs.
Over the course of two days dozens of activists were arrested and 53 protester were referred to Qasr El-Nil public prosecutor which charged them with : Gathering, Damage of public and private assets and disruption of traffic, this is while the public prosecutor heard affidavits of those injured in Qasr El-Ainy hospital (report no. 9793 of the year 2011'”Qasr El-Nil Administrative”)
On another front, protesters were also assaulted in several other governorate , mainly Alexandria, in demonstrations which were held in solidarity with protesters in Tahrir Sq. Denouncing the assault on them.
It is worth mentioning that a number of the revolution injured and their families had decided earlier to commence a sit-in for their demands to be met, several activists joined in solidarity after the big Friday demonstration which a number of parties and political powers had called for on Friday , November 18th in Tahrir Square. Sit-inners were suddenly assaulted by police forces to break the sit-in by force in the previously-mentioned manner.
